This thought is in memory of my mom who journeyed the last 6 years of her life while experiencing the debilitating effects of vascular dementia. She was laid to eternal rest on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the presence of family, friends, loved ones and Almighty God.
“Today, Glory Came Down”
Today, Glory came down in all His grace, His mercy and His peace near to the bereaved, burdened and broken hearted to soak our somber souls in His sublime and surpassing season of complete rest and refreshment. As our beloved begotten breath of 90 years was called from life to life, to her imperishable, incorruptible and eternal inheritance prepared before creation by the High and Exalted One, seated on Heaven’s mercy seat. Therefore, let the sovereign salvo of salvation trumpet with thunderous booming praise from the ancient gates and everlasting doors of King Messiah! For our lifegiving breath has entered the life-gate by the powerful Spirit and almighty will of the Majestic Glory–the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Today, Glory came down and we ask for His forgiveness as we fret, weep and grieve as those who do not have hope. Our maternal breath has left an aching vacancy, empty space and emptiness inside our hearts and our homes. We desire her to breathe again the loving words, wonderful words and the beautiful words of life into our vacancy, our empty space and our emptiness. Our bone longs for her bone, our flesh longs for her flesh and our kindred spirit longs for her maternal spirit. Widowed, weathered, wilted and unfit to fight, life slips away slowly, softly and silently, stolen alive over years under the covers of vascular dementia. Alas, aged, voiceless and lifeless beneath chafed flesh and dry bones, we beseech Revelation Song to call her home to our hiding place, haven of rest–the ancient Way, truth and the life.
Today, Glory came down shrouded in unapproachable light of life with rainbows of living color, the Dawn from on high holding the ancient alabaster jar, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing in abundance with His lifegiving wellspring of wonderful peace. His peace chases away all memories of her pain, all memories of her suffering and all memories of her cold failing flesh bawling, clawing, crying and gnashing of teeth from a lonely place devoid of decency and dignity. As she exhales life’s last fleeting breath alone across death’s cold sullen stream to enter His divine rest beyond Beulah Land’s glorious celestial shores. We cry out to the God who sees for endurance and encouragement to soldier sunward in honor of our father and mother’s miraculous sunrise, life and times and sunset celebration. Draw us nearer, nearer to your wellspring of living waters and baptize us deep beneath your fathomless billows of wonderful peace from the crown of our heads to the soul of our feet.
Today, Glory came down clothed in dense darkness, flashings of fire, voices of thunder, rushing winds and abundance of rain. He declares, “There shall be showers of blessing. This is the promise of love; There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Savior above.” Spirit of the Root and Offspring of David, fall afresh your grace, fall afresh your mercy, and fall afresh your wonderful peace. As we long for your breath and living waters, the wellspring of our soul to lift us from the house of lamentation to the secret place of the Most High–the mount of the Almighty. For today, Glory came down.
