A Prayer For Families, Friends and Neighbors In Texas During Hurricane Harvey

This prayer was inspired by the plight of Texas while Hurricane Harvey was bearing down on them, creating unprecedented torrential rain and flooding in America’s history.

A Prayer for families, friends and neighbors in Texas during Hurricane Harvey

Abba, Father, Almighty God, maker of heaven and earth, King of our days and Lord of our lives, we retreat into your presence this morning with groaning unspeakable words, heartfelt emotions and sadness for the plight of our families, friends and neighbors caught up and engulfed in the tempest, torrent and hurricane of cataclysmic biblical proportion in Texas. For those who have yet to be rescued and are pushed to the margins of their sanity in the absence of aide, we pray you would give them a sound presence of mind to maintain calm and cleave to hope. For those who lost mother, father, brother and sister, friends and neighbors, help them to cope with the acute, throbbing, numbing pain from this surreal catastrophic experience. For those who must now evacuate without warning, without planning and without clothing on their skin in the debt of night in exodus formation from the surging floodwaters and imminent threat of cresting reservoirs, marshal the spirit of survival within them, secure their footsteps, and give them grit to grind through the floodplains to hire ground. Help us as a nation to converge around Texas and sound the clarion call to dispatch and deploy all modes and means available to save lives by any means necessary during this unthinkable, unspeakable, and unprecedented flooding within our nation. We stand as one nation under God, in His grid, in His grip, and in His grace.  Amen!
