Why Don’t You Like To Be At Home With Me?

Here you are, years into your relationship with your Lord and you still don’t long to be at home with him.  You haven’t quite named the root cause as the image is illusive, visually vague and dimmed by distance, estrangement and is soon lost in the narcissistic noise of your world.

The truth is you’ve not been completely crucified with Christ. The truth is you’ve not surrendered your soul as a living sacrifice on the altar of the Almighty.  The truth is you’re still caught up in the mortal attractions, attributes and attitudes of this earthen ether.  The truth is you’ve not parted from the plush high places of your worldly treasures and posh penthouse of worldly pleasures.  The truth is you’re still transfixed and transformed by the gravity of glitz and glory of glamour and enticed by the irresistible peepshow of life and the voluptuous cleavage of her transient world.  The truth is you still continue to call this fallen state and fallen place my crib, my spot and “my space”.  The truth is you still lust for and long for your former will, former way and former world which you once owned outright by right because it is, was, and still is your life.

Brothers and sisters, let there be no ambiguity as scripture says “So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! – 2 Corinthians 5:17 NRSV”  But so long as you have breath, the “Old Man”, aka your “Former World” will always intentionally and intrusively knock at your door to engage, entice and entreat you to chase after its four winds of destiny to an end state of emptiness.  Resist and let go of your former world and it will flee and allow the abundant and eternal life of Christ to dwell in you richly.  As he continually asks in love, why don’t you long to be at home with me?
