These thoughts resonated within me after our 25th anniversary celebration of our high school graduation. I hope it encourages you to both relish and cherish the moments created with those whom you hold dearest to your heart, home and community.
Thoughts Of A CRLS Alumnus
To my fellow alumni of CRLS, food is for a moment, emotions ebbs and flows and is soon forgotten but living words are forever. So, I choose my words carefully as I share my thoughts with you concerning our 25th commencement celebration. I must say, it was truly fulfilling, rewarding and refreshing to see familiar and endearing faces of our not too distant past. I consider myself both fortunate and grateful to have experienced for a moment, breath and a paragraph on the pages of my history the opportunity to converge in covenant with you to celebrate the miracle of our memories which commenced over 25 years ago. For what we shared on that indelible, tangible, transient yet eternal eve was a community of classmates gifted and graced with the miracle of memories all from the same cognate communal roots of CRLS with an overarching desire to pass it on into the life and times of our loved ones. Remember, we are neither greater than our memories nor our morrows, so let us be diligent, intentional and deliberate in savoring the salient, somber and sensational moments of our lives. As you have been so will you always be the unsung nuggets, gems and golden moments and memoirs of our lives embossed on the pages of eternity forever to greet us with a warm welcome and soft smile in our tomorrows.
I’m reminded of the song writer’s words “Do you know where you’re going to? Do you like the things that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you know? Do you get what you’re hoping for? When you look behind you there’s no open door. What are you hoping for? Do you know?” My hope and desire is that as your world turns the pages of your life, may you find direction and a strong knowing in where you are going. And in that confident knowing may you be granted the desires of your heart and get what you’re hoping for. But even though there are no open doors behind you. Even though you don’t like the things that life continues to show and even though after 25 years of sojourn on this side of Jordan your revelation of self worth, purpose and plan for the peoples of this world cannot be found be not dismayed, discouraged or despondent. As we are a people of hope so don’t stop the volition to vision hope as an aspiring impetus to arrive at the fruition of your future.
In closing, longevity may not have its way in all our lives but we have lived to see a monumental and momentous occasion in our future where our memories met our morrows and to that I will be forever grateful. May you continue to hold dear the compass of life near your heart to guide and keep you always on the path of prudence and in all that you do, be bold, strong, courageous and live life to the rim of its limits. For these are not empty but living words unearthed from the deep seated thoughts of a CRLS alumnus.
