It Was On The Road To The Cross Of The Crucified Christ For You

This thought was inspired by The Gospel of Luke chapter 9:51 (NRSV – “When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem.“) where Jesus set his face to Jerusalem shortly after The Transfiguration experience  in expectation to complete the ultimate eternal atoning act as the Lamb of God for all mankind past, present and yet to come.  I’m overwhelmed with unspeakable gratitude by our Savior’s unwavering commitment to the “good news” and His compassion and selfless  acts of love while on the road to the rugged cross.

“It Was On The Road To The Cross Of The Crucified Christ For You”

When the day of revelation became flesh, the Son of Man was summoned to the Ancient of Days.  The eternal cloud of witnesses watched in great consternation as Moses, Elijah and the Lord of host reasoned the faith and fate of the Beloved.  And God said, “Behold my Son, the Chosen in whom I’m well pleased, proclaim what was foretold from the mount of my redeeming love to be done on the mount of Calvary’s cross when you descended from the heavens of my holy hill and turned your face to Jerusalem, the City of God.”   The eternal cloud of witnesses, apostles, nations and generations of man beheld the Son of God, the Utterance of Authority spoke with wisdom the itinerant journey and fulfillment of the eternal incarnate Word made sacrifice.

On the road, I taught you to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind; and to love your neighbor as yourself.  On the road, I admonished, blessed are you who hear the word of God and obey it.  On the road, I cautioned that you count the cost for carrying the cross as no one who does not hate father and mother, sister and brother; wife and children and life itself can be my disciple.  On the road, I shared the passion of the Christ and you could not see and perceive nor hear and understand the paragon of parables and profound wisdom of the spoken Word.  On the road, I taught you, look not for the living among the dead and to release the things of this world and seek the kingdom as everything else will follow suit.  On the road, I visited and supped in your homes among tax collectors, riffraff and sinners, and those smitten with impurities and loved you without preference and partiality.  On the road, I commissioned and empowered you to bring the kingdom of heaven nigh and to cast out demons in my name but cautioned, rejoice that your name be found in the Lambs book of Life.  On the road, I commissioned you to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, Jews and Gentiles, pagans and prostitutes and from the gutter most to the uttermost gated communities of indifference.  On the road, I became the quintessential embodiment of rejection and shame for you.  On the road, I became the unclean, the outcast, the exiled and ostracized in society for you.  On the road, I was bruised by the jagged edge of transgression and mortally wounded by the insurrection of iniquity for you.  On the road, I endured under the duress of Pharisees, Sanhedrin and Sadducees and scrutiny of the Scribes for you.  On the road, I brought down the haughty and the powerful and lifted the humble and lowly by my obedience and devotion to the redemptive purpose of the Mighty One for you.  On the road, I was beaten, battered, betrayed by my neighbor and abandoned by my band of brothers for you.  On the road, I showed love to the widow, the voiceless, homeless and the landless as an example for you.  On the road, I raised the dead, healed the mute, the leper, the edema, epileptic and the ailing on the Sabbath in the synagogues for you.  On the road, I released the captives, freed the oppressed, raised up the children of Abraham and brought the kingdom of God among you.  On the road, I taught you the significance of the kingdom of heaven being likened to a mustard seed as in its budding it is but a sprig but when it is fully matured the kingdom will be greater than the aged cedars of Lebanon.  On the road, like the aged yeast, the kingdom of God cannot be hidden in darkness or suppressed by the serpent but will leaven the soul of man from beneath the scarlet sins of the world.  On the road, I who became salt and light of the world was felled in the hour and power of darkness by the great ax of hell, affixed to the cursed tree of shame by the nails of my nation, took on the nakedness of my neighbor and settled the old account from long ago in Eden for you.  On the road, I overcame the crucible of the cross, broke the bane of your burden, bore your crown of thorns and throes, shouldered your cross, was crucified in the gallows of Golgotha among outcasts and was raised from the dead on the third day by the eternal existential power of God’s Word to fulfill the Scriptures as the Christ for you.  On the road, I became the eternal Unleavened Bread of affliction and Passover Lamb of God for you!  When I turned my face to Jerusalem, it was on the road to the cross of the crucified Christ for you.
